The recent growth and redevelopment of the mid-town Atlanta area has driven the need for increasing the capacity of the northern segment of the downtown connector. The corridor improvements consist of the reconfiguration of the connector roadways and major bridge replacements. The tour will feature the redevelopment of the Atlantic Station which necessitated its own infrastructure, including the new 17th Street bridge situated in a mixed-use community environment. With the growth of Georgia Tech to the east side on the connector, the 5th Street bridge replacement had to be sensitive to both vehicular and pedestrian access in a campus environment. The 14th Street bridge is currently under construction along with access roadway on both sides of the connector. We will take a close look at how the infrastructure enhances mobility, provides green space and joins areas together. Lunch will be on your own with at several locations within Atlantic Station. |
